Reuters reported that China is accelerating efforts to reduce reliance on imported soybeans by promoting alternative livestock feed, including fermented feed made from ingredients such as brans and wine lees. The report noted that feed costs can account for a large share of pig farming costs, making formulation adjustment an important tool for improving production economics.
The shift is supported by China’s broader food security strategy and efforts to reduce soybean meal use in animal feed. While fermented feed adoption is growing, the report also noted challenges such as feed spoilage risk and inconsistent formulation quality. For feed additive companies, this trend may create more demand for solutions related to preservation, gut health, nutrient utilization, and formulation stability.
