China Allows Imports of Romanian Dairy Products Under New Inspection and Quarantine Requirements

On April 16, 2026, China’s General Administration of Customs issued Announcement No. 44 of 2026, allowing the import of Romanian dairy products that meet China’s inspection and quarantine requirements. The announcement covers dairy products made mainly from cow milk, sheep milk, and goat milk, including pasteurized milk, sterilized milk, fermented milk, cheese, cream, milk powder, whey powder, whey protein powder, colostrum powder, casein, infant formula and related base powder products.

According to the announcement, Romanian dairy producers exporting to China must be approved or registered by the Romanian authorities, operate under official supervision, and also complete registration in China. The raw milk must come from farms meeting animal health requirements, and the products must comply with Chinese food safety standards, packaging rules, labelling requirements, storage conditions, and veterinary health certificate requirements.

For the dairy and animal protein trade sector, this update expands China’s approved import sources and highlights the importance of animal health control, traceability, and food safety compliance in cross-border dairy trade.
